- gcc 3.2.3 with Win9x patch, msp430-libc
- gdb 6.0, gdbproxy
- pdf docs
- examples
- bsl and jtag downloaders

insight is still missing, sorryit's basicaly the same as the test release 12 days ago, but builtagainst an older release (1.5.5) of cygwin (i had trouble wit the latestrelease, 1.5.7, on some machines). the two patches are new too and asit's fresh from CVS, it contains the fixes made until today.http://sf.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=42303&package_id=68584&release_id=219171chris

Hi Chris,

Is there a special reason why you didn't include Insight?

[Mspgcc-users] ANN: updated win32 installer

I have installed the new Win32 installer, and apparently I need the new Cygwin.
I
noticed the error of it already being there. I just wanted to suggest that the
installer ask the user if it's ok to overwrite the old cygwin.dll. In my case,
I have
nothing else that uses it, so it's fine. For me I'll just reinstall the
installer after
deleting all cygwin.dll's.
Any reason the compile time would be longer? Compiling the same project w/ the
030506
build, I get a compile in about 10 seconds. This build compiles in about 3
minutes. My
system is a 2.4G Pentium running Win2000 (fully updated).
(I deleted the cygwin1.dll that was in the original toolset dir and
uninstall/reinstalled your installer to make it work).
Thanks and Thanks for the new build... Been waiting for a long time. My
company will
not open a port allowing CVS access, so I can't build it here w/o bringing it
from home.
-Mark

Sipke de Leeuw wrote:Is there a special reason why you didn't include Insight?yes, i haven't built it yet ;-)and one of the reasons is that i'm not so interested in debuggers, ilike IO pins and serial lines in real time systems :-)well, i'll download the sources and try to build it, it is on the todolist anyway.but i also hope for other frontends to gdb on win32.eclipse.org is anice candidate, but it needs some tricks to be used with the msp430 astarget.the insight version also lags somewhat behind the commnad line gdb andit is build into gdb instead of using gdb as driver which complicatesthings addidionaly...chris

This is to ensure you don't get twocopies in the path. If you do, cygwin refuses to run. On the other hand,it does not ensure you have an up to date cygwin.Regards,

Cool, thanks for that

Have downloaded and installed the new version (after uninstalling the
previous version). So far it works fine (after resolving the usual hassles
of Cygwin.dll - this is only a problem if Cygwin is already installed).

One comment/question about the new downloader. Have noticed that it takes
significantly longer to download programs - about two to three times as long
- through GDB. Is there something we can do to get quicker downloads?

The gdb.ini file that we are using is:
--------------------------------------
target remote localhost:3333
set remoteaddresssize 64
set remotetimeout 999999
mon erase
load debug\mathLibTst.elf
monitor reset
--------------------------------------

Thanks
aLUNZ

Alan Scott wrote:Have downloaded and installed the new version (after uninstalling the

So far it works fine (after resolving the usual hasslesof Cygwin.dll - this is only a problem if Cygwin is already installed).it should be possible to just uncheck the cygwin stuff in the installerand use your installed cygwin. you may need to upgrade your cygwin tothe latest version tough. One comment/question about the new downloader. Have noticed that it takes
significantly longer to download programs - about two to three times as long- through GDB. Is there something we can do to get quicker downloads?the downloader just uses the default 256 bytes. it is significantlyfaster when the entire available RAM is used.i often download with a "download" target in my makefile, where i usemsp430-jtag with the --ramsize option. some of the examples have such anentry in the makefile ("make download" mapped on "ctrl+1" in SciTE andfinished is the one button compile and download :-)The gdb.ini file that we are using is:
--------------------------------------
target remote localhost:3333
set remoteaddresssize 64
set remotetimeout 999999
mon erase
load debug\mathLibTst.elf
monitor resetseehttp://homepage.hispeed.ch/py430/mspgcc/gdb-target.iniyou can force gdb to use a larger and fixed packet size. that shouldhelp a bit. an other solution is to download with msp430-jtag and thenjust connect the debuger (no "load", just tell gdb about the sources itshould use)chris
