Japanese Display for gtk+-1.2.9

Hi Guys,I am trying to display a japanese display for my gtk Cross compiled
linux embedded system. Im using the gtk+-1.2.9 for this is one of the
gtk-1.2 version that is supported by dillo web browser. Currenty, gtk
buttons does not display japanese fonts, it only display lines instead
of text. What I did is the following steps> export LANG=ja_JP.eucJP or ja_JP.UTF-8> export LC_ALL=ja_JP.eucJP or ja_JP.UTF-8When I am going to used UTF-8, it displays a warning message
"Gdk-warning: locale not supported by C library" and it will display
english fonts. But if I am going to used the eucJP, the warning message
disappeared and the widgets only displayed lines instead of text. My
gtk configuration is this> ./configure --prefix=$PREFIX  <setting for cross compilation> --with-locale=ja_JP.eucJPI can't pinpoint why it does not display japanese fonts on its widgets.
Any hints guys??? Is there something wrong with my configuration???_______________________________________________

It sounds as you're working on some Linux based PDA like "Linux Zaurus"
by SHARP. Dillo is running on Qt on framebuffer? Or, it is running on X11?
The font handling is very different between these 2 foundations.

If you execute
locale -a | grep ja_JP
you can get the list of ja_JP.XXX locales that libc on your system
supports. Could you find ja_JP.UTF-8?

Japanese text in widget except of button (e.g. textbox widget used by
editors) is displayed correctly? I'm not sure whether Japanese developers
had ever tested gtk+-1.2 well on non-X11 systems.

When I search Japanese web pages about dillo, it seems that
there are various localization (or internationalization) patch
for dillo. (for example:http://teki.jpn.ph/pc/software/)

Are you sure the problem is under gtk+-1.2.x, not of dillo itself?

mpsuzuki

Japanese Display for gtk+-1.2.9

@mpsuzuki, Internationalization for dillo is only for pages that
requires japanese display. But to widgets, it will not covered into it.
dillo currently uses gtk-1.2 as its UI back end,it does not requires
Qt, only gtk-1.2.>>If you execute>>       locale -a | grep ja_JP>>you can get the list of ja_JP.XXX locales that libc on your system>>supports. Could you find ja_JP.UTF-8?I can't find UTF-8, and also eucJP. It only contains POSIX and C when locale -a is entered. Currently, I found out that gtk-1.2 does not support UTF-8, so we are onto looking for eucJP to be used by gtk.currently using localedef command, we add ja_JP.eucjp so that when you invoke locale -a, it will display: C POSIX ja_JP.eucjpBut still dillo on its widgets does not display japanese. Any other hints guys on where Im wrong??Is there something I missed???On 10/18/05,<> wrote:On Tue, 18 Oct 2005 19:13:57 +0900wrote:>>I am trying to display a japanese display for my gtk Cross compiled linux>>embedded system. Japanese Display for gtk+-1.2.9

>>How about text widget included in testgtk?
Thanks for your concern mpsuzuki.
In PC side, we can't verify the textwidget because we can't input
japanese in our PC side, only japanese display.

In testgtk, the font selector and the file selector is tranformed into
japanese from the PC side. But in out embedded target board, it
display nothing.

I don't think so if we lack fonts for this but the dillo can display
japanese, only gtk widgets can't display.

Is there something wrong with my configuration of gtk??? Is there
something wrong from our linux system???

Any ideas guys???

I attached a sample of gtk+-1.2 font selector in well-Japanized status.
Your trouble is that Japanese text at buttons, tabs etc (which I enclosed
by red line), when it's excuted under LANG=ja_JP.eucjp? And, if you
execute aslike

env LANG=ja_JP.eucjp LC_MESSAGES=C testgtk

correct English messages are displayed on buttons?

If so, I guess, the default fontset (which is used for text on the
buttons etc) defined by gtkrc is incompatible with available Japanese
fonts.

Please check available fonts for Japanese script (you can check the
charset by "Font Style" column of gtk font selector, search for
jisx0208 charset), check its "Actual Font Name" by "Font Information"
tab, and it is compatible with the default fontset of gtk (which is
defined in gtkrc).

mpsuzuki
