[PHP-DEV] about PECL and PHP 5.1

Hi,we used to have a "Collection of PECL modules" for PHP5-Windows but itdoesn't seem to have been created for PHP 5.1. I'm searching for it tobuild a new release of ùy installer WAMP5 with 5.1. Should I directlyask to the PECL team or is this package not going to exist anymore fromnow on?Thanks for your Answers and great job for 5.1 (especially to Wez for PDO;-) )Romain

[PHP-DEV] about PECL and PHP 5.1

Hmm.

Is this expected to be a long-term change to the way we're making the
binary version of PECL modules available for a given PHP release? Or
did we just miss one part of the release process for 5.1.0? (I've
added a comment tohttp://oss.backendmedia.com/ReleaseChecklistaccordingly).

I really appreciate pecl4win.php.net -- Edin has done some great work
with it -- but there are real advantages to having a known,
point-in-time version of a PECL binary synchronized with each PHP
release. Troubleshooting can be pretty hard when you can't synchronize
your test environment with your user's environment.

In addition, forcing the user to go to a different host and navigate a
different Web structure to download a DLL that may or may not reflect
a current build introduces a significant barrier to adopting the usage
of a PECL extension, compared to the side-by-side links of "PHP x.x.x
ZIP download" and "Collection of PECL Modules for PHP x.x.x".

If the plan is to drop the "Collection of PECL Modules", the
documentation team will also need to revise the documentation that
talks about how to get binary versions of PECL modules; that's not a
major task, most of the content is contained here:http://www.php.net/manual/en/install.pecl.downloads.php-- but there
will be a lag before the translations occur and the updated manual is
published.

Agreed, the PECL bundle is still very useful to maintain for each release.
(as is the debug pack, so that debugging crashes becomes a possibility
for releases).

(as is the debug pack, so that debugging crashes becomes a possibility
for releases).Shouldnt we then fast track the binary support in the PEAR installer? It should be enough to commit all your code, wait for the next pecl4wincompile step, bundle the binary and release your package ..However there might be a need for multiple binaries for multiple phpreleases? In that case you have to make a new release when a new binarybreaking php release is made. The release should therefore set theproper dependencies to only support php versions upto the next minorversion update.regards,
Lukas
